Two Cozy Things, One Un-Cozy Thing, And A Winner

It’s 10:07 Friday evening and I’ve just returned from a grueling 14+ hour day at work, so I don’t have a lot of profound thoughts. However, since we’ve been locked in an arctic freeze this week, let’s talk about cozy and un-cozy. And then I’ll tell you the winner of last week’s CD giveaway.

Cozy #1: A Hot Cocoa Recipe, Courtesy of My Sister-in-Law

If you too are cold, you might want to consider making a cup of this splendid low carb hot chocolate, courtesy of my sister-in-law Jen.

  • 3 T heavy whipping cream
  • boiling water
  • 1-2 tsp of cocoa
  • A dash of salt
  • A dash of vanilla
  • A dash of stevia or sugar

Mix it all together! It’s preferable if you have a fine whisk, so you can keep the cocoa powder from clumping.

Cozy #2: Chapter One Listen, Courtesy of Conrad Bear

While you sip the cocoa, have a listen to Chapter One of From the White House to the Amish by professional narrator Conrad Bear.

Un-Cozy #1: The Loss of An Old Friend, Courtesy of my Aunt Virginia

I passed a grievous milestone this week. My crossword puzzle pajamas are no more.

Those pajamas went with me through the exhaustion after long days in heart surgery, the relaxation of a snow day, mornings sleeping in. I even did crossword puzzles with my aunt in them when I lived at her house.

I think I paid a whopping $2-$3 for the PJ’s at a second hand store, probably a decade ago or more. But as the years ticked by and the threads came loose, they became more and more precious.

So I emailed my aunt a picture.

Me: Help! My favorite PJs are falling apart. What do I do?

Aunt: Honey, it’s time to upgrade!!!

Me: Oh come on! They’re so comfortable.

Aunt: 3 thumbs-down emojis

So, on Wednesday I took myself in hand and firmly took the PJ’s to the trash. So Un-Cozy.

About an hour later, I went and got them out again.

Yup. But give me a little grace. These pajamas are an old friend. Maybe I can use the fabric to make something else so I don’t have to part ways with the memories entirely. Any ideas?

A Winner

Congratulations to Vera Brenneman from Virginia who won the From the White House to the Amish CD set last week.

Remember, you can get the audio as a CD set (now 29.99) or as an instant download (now 14.99) to play off of a phone or an iPad (not a computer).

And that’s all. I’m too tired to say more. And I have the wedding of a very dear friend to attend tomorrow, so I need to get some sleep!

  1. Cut the fabric in strips… use as ribbon for wreaths,decor,etc.. or even make some hair scrunchies out of it..
How about a stash of face masks…?

  2. I just saw a hint if using old or mismatch stockings. One of them was to sew patches together and then cut up the scraps to stuff a pillow made of the patches. you could adapt this for your cosy PJ’s.

  3. Oh I know just how you feel. Old, used, flannel is so soft and cozy. Don’t throw it away. The suggestion about using the material for a pillow is a good one. You could probably cut out large, unholey, pieces out of the top and perhaps even pieces from the upper legs and sew them together. You’d most likely have enough usable fabric to make a pillow case. You could use it for you bed pillow and cuddle up to it every night.

  4. Old well used flannel is sooooooo warm, soft, and cozy. I now how you feel about those pjs. The pillow idea is a good one. You could cut out the larger, unholey, pieces of the top and probably some of the leg pieces and piece them together and probably have enough to make a pillow case that you could cuddle up to in bed.

    Don’t show that material away!

  5. Congrats Vera! And Katrina, I brought that book along on our Florida vacation and just finished it last week. Iโ€™ve recommended it to a couple folks already as good reading! You put a LOT of time and research into that project! Bravo! ๐Ÿ™Œ

  6. Go with the pillow idea and to make it really memorable and unique, do a feather filler! Seriously! Itโ€™s the best๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿ™ƒ

Congratulations to the winner, Vera! I often think about her late husband Henry, a Godly humble, and hardworking man with quiet strength! Blessings!

  8. Great idea on the burp cloths or blanket. Also, purchase elastic that can be used as a waist band, without fabric covering it. Cut off the old waist band of elastic and sew on the new. Or if all else fails, cut up for rags, at least you get to see the fabric when cleaning.
