Progress on the List

This is a list of things I have completed, with a brief commentary. I was not planning to post this weekend due to working and to the holiday, but this is just a quuick update on my list.

1 of 40: See the wild horses.

2 of 40: Drive on a sand road.

3 of 40: paint on the sidewalk with (washable!) paint. Perhaps the baby is not the best company for this, but she loved it!

4 of 40: Learn to bake bread. Again. Before turning 40. Thanks to friend Laura Z, I got an in-person bread-making tutorial just days before my 40th birthday. Under her tutelage, the bread turned out great. Still refining my independent process, but I feel much more confident in my skills.

5 of 40: New Recipe, Crockpot Bean Stacks

  • 2 cups dry beans
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 lb. raw sausage
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • Put in crockpot. Cook on high 6-8 hours. Serve with corn chips, lettuce, cheese, salsa and dressing.

This speaks my language, especially on a busy, hot day. Throw the dry beans into the crockpot with seasonings and a little water at 10 am. Forget about them until 6pm when it’s time to eat.

Thanks, Joy for sending the recipe! (I wish I could keep track of who sent me every idea.)

6 of 40: Pitch a Podcast. This was unsuccessful but stretching all the same!

7 of 40: Tour Ruthmere Museum with friends. What excellent tour guides we had! We enjoyed it immensely, including trying to spot some of the 200+ pomegranates the designers included as symbols of wealth and prosperity. Thanks to Sarah for planning the whole thing, including a fish taco bar and cupcakes from my favorite Mini Delights.

8 of 40: Make edible Play-Dough with Anina. For this little scamp, it was all about shoving as much of it into her mouth as possible. But it was fun!
