Merchant Monday: Holiday Christmas Cards–5 Things to Love

December 17, 2018

As I explained Saturday, I was asked by a card company to write about their product line and I declined.  I carefully explained that I do not write about products with which I have no personal experience. Just as I was forgetting about them, they emailed me again and suggested I order a few samples. I was impressed with their creativity, professional courtesy, and email signature, so I agreed. I had a feeling that they represented high quality, artistic products. My hunch was correct.

Even if you are not in the market for cards right now, you should at least browse around the website at Basic Invite to experience the 180 color palette which left me nearly breathless.

I’m going to tell you five things I loved about my experience with Basic Invite. If you wish to take a look yourself, see the link below. I’ve also included two links at the end of the post if you would rather browse later.

1. You’ll love the 180 color choices.

When I first started browsing the Basic Invite website, their slogan began going around and around in my head.

Pick a color. Any color. Pick a color. Any color. Pick a….

It was a catchy phrase, but, I thought, what’s the big deal? All graphics places offer lots of colors. But then, I clicked on the little icon that allows you to change the color of any item on the card, and I was smitten.

In the gray section I found colors like quiet rain, pewter, stormy, and moonstone. There’s oatmeal, Tuscan sun, peacock, prairie, and Barbados. There’s pool party, very berry, school bus, and pomegranate. The card below shows less than half of all the available colors.

Besides that, it was easy to navigate and preview.

Even the envelopes are available in 40 colors.

2. You’ll love the personal touch.

The first thing that really pleased me when the samples arrived was the clever twine latch on the envelope, leading me to believe they had been packaged by an actual human. (Let me make a note about our photo: we snapped it in the duskiness of sunset on the brick wall outside of Cappy’s one night, so we would have a photo for the church calendar. Since we didn’t take anything better since then, I used this one. So don’t blame Basic Invite for the lack of sharpness!)

3. You’ll love the many possibilities.

Basic Invite offers wedding stationery and planners, baby announcements and onesie stickers, and printable party games and gift tags.

Specifically for the Christmas section, I liked the many different options for card backs. I’ve partially hidden the one I actually chose for our card, because you need to enter your address below to get that one physically in the mail, and I don’t want to spoil your fun reading it when it arrives.

4. You’ll love being able to order a sample first so you can actually hold it in your hand before committing to a huge purchase.

I discovered after I received the sample that the avocado envelope was not a great match to the green in my photos. This would be essential for wedding stationery.

5. You’ll love the address capturing service.

Here’s the link to enter your address to get our card, while supplies last! I will try to send cards to everyone who enters their address today, December 17. (If you are one of our immediate family, you will get one anyway. You can still click on it to see how cool it is though.) Of course, we’d love to get a card from you if you have an extra at 410 Brady Street, Elkhart, IN 46516.

Update, December 19: Thank you for reading. Unfortunately, the opportunity to receive a card is over as I had to place my order.

You could post a link like this on Facebook or other social media and have Basic Invite send your cards. It costs $.35 per card for that service, which doesn’t sound like much compared to addressing them all yourself and standing in line at the post office. You will pay for the cost of the stamps at checkout.

As we all know, nice holiday cards cost money. Be sure to use the promotion code HOLI30 to get 30% off of your order from Basic Invite.

Interestingly, I did a quick peek at two card sites I am familiar with and found that one was a comparable price to Basic Invite, but without all the color choices. The other was much more expensive. I’m sure you can get cheaper cards too, but for such outstanding selection, I think Basic Invite is a very good choice.

Thanks for checking them out!

P.S. Come back Saturday evening! I rarely have flashes of insight about what I will write about next, but I had one of those moments this weekend. Let’s just say we weren’t trying to get into an inn, and I wasn’t pregnant or riding a donkey, but there were some other remarkable similarities to the Christmas story that required a willingness to except sudden unexpected developments.

  1. Wow! They have some really pretty designs! Wish I would’ve known about them before I did our cards but will definitely keep them in mind for next year.

  2. Hey Katrina!
Thanks for the timely review. It was on my list to order Christmas cards for the business – something that should have been done along time ago..so its great that they can send them for us as well!

    1. That’s great! I thought their business cards looked really neat. There is a way to import a spreadsheet of addresses but I haven’t done that. I hope it works out well for you!

    1. Esther, thanks for your comment. However, I do not physically have the cards so you will need to enter your address in the link: basicinvite.me/hqiEpF

    1. I’m sorry but I do not physically have the cards. You will have to enter your address at the link if you would like to receive one.

    1. Thanks Michelle, but please enter your address in the link toward the end of the blog. I do not physically have the cards. I will copy it here for you as well. basicinvite.me/hqiEpF
