“The sad news of the night is that I haven’t written my blog yet,” I announced as my two friends slid into the bench across from me at El Camino.
“Oh, no!” They said in unison. “Now we’ll be hearing about it all night.”
These are my two friends who always have interesting things to say. I never feel quite as boring as after having dinner with them. It just makes me feel sorry for the people who have to be around me on a regular basis.
Enough gloom, though. I’m very grateful to have these friends, with whom I can say, “Fish tacos tonight?” and we all know that means El Camino. So with respect to them, I will get on with a few brief thoughts about 2016.
The one reason I didn’t get my blog done earlier is that I was updating my goals book. Last Christmas, the critical care nurse manager gave me a beautiful blank book and a nice mechanical pencil that looks like a regular pencil. It’s become my goals book, and I hope to update it every year, for as many years as there are pages.
They look something like this when broken down, but I’m a bit too private to show you every word.
Yes, smiling is a goal of mine. Any boring people out there who can relate? At the right side of the page, I rate my progress on a scale of 1 to 10. Seriously! It’s helpful.
Anyway, you get the picture.
It’s a bit tiring, looking at the goals from last year I haven’t met, and the barely-discernible progress in learning disciplines. But, I was encouraged today. By the grace of God, I have made progress here and there, just by focusing and trying and writing my goals down. And best of all, my salvation does not depend on my performance, confirmed in a quote I found only today in the footnote of the GPS New Testament, produced by Evergreen Press:
Our spiritual progress does not secure our perfection. Rather, our perfection, acquired the moment we trusted Jesus for salvation, is confirmed by our spiritual progress.
How beautiful is that!
And now, I’d better go hang out with my friends. Praise God, I don’t have to be as interesting as they are to win His favor!!!

I think all three of you at that table are quite interesting and I am privileged to call you all friends!! Just continue to be who God wants you to be and you will continue to be interesting!! Keep up the good writing and once more you have challenged me to be more goal-oriented.
Thanks Denise!
Oh how my heart longs to be the fourth person at that table!!!
That would be fantastic!!
One must be blessed to have such wonderfully interesting friends!
