All those who journey, soon or late,

Must pass within the garden gate.

Must kneel alone in the darkness there.

And battle with some fierce despair.

God pity those who cannot say:

“Not mine but thine;” Who only pray,

“Let this cup pass;” and cannot see

The purpose in Gethsemane.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox
In the garden of Gethsemane several years ago, reviewing the Gethsemane story. I went early, and had the garden to myself for just a moment.
Could it be possible that one of these olive trees was in the garden already when Jesus was there?

  1. I wept, Katrina, when I read this favorite poem of mine, at a time when I so desperately need to accept what I have in my cup.
